  • What causes low water pressure?
    • Low pressure can be caused by a variety of things including deposit build ups and other blockages. If that is not the case for you, ask your neighbors if their water pressure has also been affected. If the answer is yes then inform GBUC about the problem.
  • Why do my pipes rattle and make noise all the time?
    • When water is travelling through a pipe and it comes to the end near a faucet, it can create loud sounds like a hammering bang. To prevent these water hammer from consistently happening, air chambers (vertical pipes installed near faucets) are put in place to cushion the fast moving water.
    • A pipe that is not strapped off can vibrate and bang against the wall, roof trusses or whatever it is mounted to. Make sure that all straps are properly installed and fastened.

    • Foul smelling water is caused by the combination of hydrogen, sulfur and bacteria in the water.
  • Can I use a tankless water heater if I have hard water?
    • You can use them; however, the result can be negative with added expense. If you have hard water it is best to have water softening treatment,.
  • My water bill is going up, but I do not think we have a leak, what is going on?
    • Check the water meter reading. The toilet may be leaking slowly and silently. Put coloring in the toilet tank and check later in the toilet bowl for a color change. If that is not the case call a qualified plumber.
